Meet Lancashire!

Lancashire is a special place in North West England, like a big county with lots of towns and countryside. Imagine a giant puzzle piece! It has a long coastline where the land meets the Irish Sea.

To the north, it's next to Cumbria, and to the east, it borders Yorkshire. To the south, you'll find Greater Manchester and Merseyside. The biggest town in Lancashire is Preston, and the main city is Lancaster, which is also the county town.

It's a place full of different landscapes, from flat fields to hilly areas.

A Long, Long Time Ago...

Lancashire wasn't always called Lancashire! A super long time ago, around 1086, much of this land was part of other places like Yorkshire. But then, around the 1100s, it started to become its own place.

For a while, it was a bit quiet, but then something amazing happened called the Industrial Revolution. This is when lots of factories and mines were built, and Lancashire became super busy and important for making things like textiles. It grew so much that it became one of the most crowded places in the UK!

What Makes Lancashire WOW?

Lancashire has some really cool natural features. Imagine wide, flat lands by the sea, perfect for playing! Then there are hills and even uplands, which are like mountains but not quite as tall.

The highest point is about as tall as 200 double-decker buses stacked on top of each other! Three big rivers, the Lune, Wyre, and Ribble, flow through Lancashire and all end up in the Irish Sea. Plus, places like Blackpool are famous seaside resorts where people go for fun!

Lancashire Today!

Today, Lancashire is a vibrant place with over 1.5 million people living there. It's made up of twelve different districts, plus two special areas called Blackburn with Darwen and Blackpool. These areas work together to make Lancashire a great place to live.

Preston is near the middle, with busy towns like Blackburn and Burnley. Blackpool is famous for its fun amusement park and tower. Lancashire is a place that combines its historical roots with modern life, making it a unique and interesting part of England.
