Joe Higgins Will Solve The Lisbon Treaty Crisis

Key Facts
Meet the Team of Workers!
The labour movement is like a big team where workers get together to talk about their jobs. They want to make sure they get paid fairly, have safe places to work, and are treated with respect. It's like when you and your friends team up to clean up the playground so everyone can have more fun!
When Did This Big Team Start?
A long, long time ago, when big factories started popping up, many workers had to work very long hours in tough conditions. Sometimes, they didn't get paid much. So, workers decided to join together to ask for better treatment. This was the beginning of the labour movement, a bit like when kids first started playing organized sports.
Why Being a Team is Super Important!
When workers stick together, they have a much stronger voice! They can ask for things like getting paid more money, having shorter workdays (like a 40-hour week, which is much less than some people used to work!), and making sure their workplaces are safe. This helps make life better for many people.
How Do They Work Together?
Workers have special ways to make their voices heard. They can talk to their bosses as a group, which is called collective bargaining. If they don't get what they need, they might even decide to stop working for a short time, called a strike, to show how serious they are. It’s like a whole class agreeing not to play a game until the rules are fair.
