The Day the Capitol Doors Opened

On January 6, 2021, something very sad happened at a special building called the United States Capitol. A group of people went there because they were unhappy about an election. One person, named Ashli Babbitt, tried to climb through a broken window to get into a room.

A police officer saw her and, sadly, she was shot. She was taken to a hospital but didn't make it. It was a very serious and upsetting event.

The people who went to the Capitol were supporters of the President at that time, Donald Trump. They were hoping to change the results of an election that had already happened. Even though they were told not to go further, Ashli Babbitt tried to climb over something. The police officer who shot her was trying to keep everyone safe inside the building.

When Ashli Babbitt was shot, she was trying to get into a place called the Speaker's Lobby. This is a very important area. The police officer who shot her was part of the Capitol Police. They said that shooting her was a lawful decision because it might have stopped other people from getting hurt. It's a very difficult situation when police have to make quick decisions to protect others.

After she was shot, other police officers tried to help Ashli Babbitt right away. They called for an ambulance, and she was taken to a hospital. Sadly, she passed away there.

The police department looked into what happened and decided the officer followed all the rules. This event made many people think about safety and how important it is to follow rules, especially in places where important decisions are made.
