Who Were the Khaljis?

Once upon a time, in a land called Delhi, there was a big kingdom ruled by different groups of people. The Khaljis were a group who wanted to be in charge! They were like a team that practiced a lot and got really good at leading.

They weren't the rulers before, but they had a plan to become the bosses of the whole kingdom. It was a time of big changes, like when your class gets a new teacher who does things a little differently!

A Sultan's Troubles

The old rulers, called Mamluks, had a sultan named Balban. But after he was gone, his grandson, who was very young, became the new sultan. This young sultan got sick and couldn't rule properly.

Then, his even younger son took over, but he was just a baby! It was like having a king who was too little to even hold his crown. This made everyone wonder who would be in charge, and that's when the Khaljis saw their chance.

The Big Switch!

The Khaljis, led by a brave man named Jalaluddin Khalji, decided it was time for a change. They were like a group of friends who decided to take over the playground because the current leaders weren't doing a good job. They had a plan, and they worked together.

They managed to get the baby sultan and his dad out of the way. Then, Jalaluddin Khalji became the new leader. It was a quick change, happening all in the year 1290!

A New Dynasty Begins!

When Jalaluddin Khalji took over, it was a really big deal! It meant the Mamluks were no longer in charge, and the Khalji family started ruling. This new ruling family was called the Khalji dynasty.

They brought new ideas and new ways of doing things to the kingdom. Even though Jalaluddin was later replaced by his nephew, the Khalji Revolution was the moment the Khaljis officially became the rulers of Delhi.
