Johannesburg: The City of Gold!

Johannesburg is a huge city in a country called South Africa, way down at the bottom of Africa. It's like the capital of a very important part of South Africa called Gauteng. This city sits on hills that are full of shiny gold deep underground!

It's so big that it's one of the 100 largest cities in the whole world. That's like having more people than all the kids in your school multiplied by a million!

A long, long time ago, people found gold on some farmland. This was super exciting, and suddenly, lots of people rushed to the area to find more gold. It was like a giant treasure hunt! In just 10 years, over 100,000 people moved there. The city grew super fast because of all the gold. It's called the 'City of Gold' because of this amazing discovery.

Johannesburg is a megacity, which means it's HUGE! Over 5 million people live right in the city, and if you count all the towns and areas around it, it's more than 14 million people! That's more people than can fit in a giant stadium many, many times over. It's a very busy place with people from all sorts of backgrounds living together.

Johannesburg is made up of many different parts that used to be separate towns. One famous area is called Soweto, which means 'South-Western Townships'. It's a very important place in South Africa's history. Many brave leaders who fought for fairness lived there. It's a place with a lot of history and strong people.
