Imagine someone who loved telling stories so much, they did it for a whole lifetime! That was Joan Plowright. She was an actress, which means she pretended to be different people in plays and movies. From School Stage to Big Stages!
Joan went to a special school called the Old Vic Theatre School to learn all about acting. Then, she got to act on a really famous stage called the Royal National Theatre. It was there she met her husband, Laurence Olivier, who was also a famous actor! They even acted in a play together called 'The Entertainer'. It's like meeting your favorite superhero and then getting to work with them!

Besides plays, Joan was a star in movies too! She was in 'Enchanted April', which won her a Golden Globe Award. She was also in '101 Dalmatians' as the kind lady who loved all those puppies! You might have even heard her voice in the animated movie 'Dinosaur'. She was like a chameleon, changing into so many different characters!

Even when Joan got older and her eyes started to have trouble seeing, she kept acting. She was so brave! She retired from acting in 2014, but her amazing work lives on in all the movies and plays she was a part of. She was even made a 'Dame' by the Queen, which is a very special honor, like getting a superhero cape!
