Jeannie Seely

Imagine a singer with a voice so special, people called her "Miss Country Soul"! That was Jeannie Seely. She sang country music, but with a feeling that reminded people of soul music too. Her most famous song, "Don't Touch Me," won a big award called a Grammy! Jeannie was born in Pennsylvania and loved music from a young age, even singing on local TV shows when she was a kid.

Jeannie Seely was a super-duper star on the Grand Ole Opry, a famous country music stage. She performed there an incredible number of times – more than 5,000 shows! That's like going to school for over 14 years straight, every single day! She was a member of the Opry for 57 years, which is longer than most people have been alive!

Before becoming a famous singer, Jeannie worked in a bank! But her heart was in music. She moved to Nashville, the heart of country music, and started writing songs. Her song "Don't Touch Me" became a huge hit, reaching the top five country songs. She had many other popular songs too, like "A Wanderin' Man" and "I'll Love You More (Than You'll Need)".

Jeannie Seely even sang duets with another country star named Jack Greene. Together, they had a hit song called "Wish I Didn't Have to Miss You." Later, she acted in a movie and was the very first woman to host the Grand Ole Opry! She kept making music and hosting radio shows, sharing her love for country music with everyone.
