James M. Cox

Imagine a super busy person who loved newspapers and helping people! That was James M. Cox.

He was born a long, long time ago in Ohio. He started out working with newspapers, reading stories and making sure they were just right. Then, he became a big boss of his own newspaper, the Dayton Daily News.

He was also a governor, which is like the boss of a whole state, and he even ran to be the President of the United States! He was a very important person in American history.

James M. Cox didn't start out as a big shot. He began by reading and editing stories for newspapers.

But he was smart and worked hard! He became the owner of a newspaper called the Dayton Daily News. He made it even better and used it to share important news.

Later, people in Ohio liked him so much they voted him to be their governor. He was governor not just once, but twice! He also served in the United States House of Representatives, which is like a big meeting place for people who make laws.

Guess what? James M. Cox even tried to become the President of the whole country!

He was chosen by his political party to run against another person. His running mate, the person who would be Vice President if they won, was a young man named Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Even though they didn't win, it was a huge deal for him to be a candidate. He also started a company that owned many newspapers, and that company is still around today and is super big!

After his big presidential run, James M. Cox decided to focus on his newspapers. He was really good at it!

He bought more newspapers and started radio stations too. His company grew and grew, spreading to different cities like Miami. This company, called Cox Enterprises, is still one of the biggest media companies in the United States.
