James Harrison: The Man with the Golden Arm!

Imagine someone who helped lots and lots of people! That was James Harrison. He was born a long, long time ago, on December 27, 1936, in Australia. He was a regular guy, but he had a very special secret superpower: he could help save babies! He started donating blood when he was just 18 years old, and he kept going and going, like a super-powered marathon runner, until he was 81!

James was nicknamed 'The Man with the Golden Arm' because he donated blood an amazing 1,173 times! That's more times than you've been to school in your whole life! He didn't just give regular blood; he gave something called plasma.

His plasma had special helpers inside that were like tiny shields for babies who were just born. These helpers stopped a problem called Rh disease, which could make babies very sick.

James's special plasma was super important. It was used to help pregnant mothers and their babies. Sometimes, a baby's blood and a mother's blood didn't mix well, and this could cause big problems. But James's donations were like a magic potion that stopped this from happening. Because of him, so many babies were born healthy and happy. He was a true hero!
