Izu Islands

Imagine a string of islands stretching out from Japan, like beads on a necklace! These are the Izu Islands. They are south and east of a place called the Izu Peninsula. Even though they look far away, they are part of Tokyo, which is a super busy city! The biggest island is called Izu Ōshima, or just Ōshima for short. It's like having a secret island getaway that's still part of your home city!

These islands are special because they were made by volcanoes! That means they have rocky shores and sometimes even hot springs. The weather is usually nice and warm, perfect for visiting the beach. You can see the blue ocean all around, and sometimes there are big waves. It’s a beautiful place with lots of nature to explore, from sandy beaches to green hills.

People sometimes call these the 'Seven Islands of Izu,' but guess what? There are actually more than a dozen islands and tiny rocks! Out of all of them, nine islands have people living there. It’s like having a big family with lots of cousins, but you only visit some of them. Each island is a little bit different, with its own special charm and things to see.

People who live on the Izu Islands have jobs that are connected to the sea and the land. They might be fishermen, catching yummy fish from the ocean, or farmers, growing delicious food. Because the islands are so pretty, many people also work in places that welcome visitors, like hotels and restaurants. It’s a peaceful life, surrounded by nature’s beauty.
