A Sad Day in the Sky!

Imagine a big airplane, like a giant metal bird, carrying lots of people from one city to another. Iran Air Flight 655 was one of these planes. It was flying from Tehran to Dubai, a popular trip for many.

But on a sunny day in 1988, something very sad happened. The plane was flying over the Persian Gulf when it was accidentally hit by missiles from a ship. This was a terrible accident that made many people very sad.

What Kind of Plane Was It?

The plane that was flying that day was called an Airbus A300. Think of it like a super-duper big bus, but for flying! These planes are made to carry lots of passengers safely. It was on its usual route, just like a school bus takes kids to school every day. Sadly, this particular flight ended in a way no one ever wanted.

A Big Mistake in the Air

Sometimes, in confusing situations, people can make mistakes. During a time when there was a war between Iran and Iraq, a big ship from the United States Navy was in the area. The people on the ship thought the airplane was a different kind of fast jet that could be a danger. They fired missiles, but it was the passenger plane! It was a really big misunderstanding that had a very sad outcome.

Remembering Everyone On Board

When Iran Air Flight 655 was hit, all 290 people on board were lost. This means no one survived. It was a very, very sad event for Iran and for the families of everyone who was on that flight. It’s important to remember what happened so we can learn from it and try to make sure such sad accidents don't happen again.
