Internet Explorer

Imagine a special door on your computer that lets you visit amazing websites, watch videos, and play games online. That was Internet Explorer! It was like a friendly guide that helped you travel all around the World Wide Web.

It was made by a company called Microsoft and came with many computers for a long, long time. It was one of the first ways many people got to see all the cool things the internet had to offer.

Internet Explorer was a 'web browser.' Think of it like a special magnifying glass for the internet. When you typed in a website address, like www.funwebsite.com, Internet Explorer would go and fetch all the pictures, words, and videos from that website and show them to you on your screen. It was like ordering a pizza, and Internet Explorer was the delivery person bringing it right to your house!

For a long time, almost everyone used Internet Explorer! It was like the most popular toy on the playground. By the year 2003, a whopping 95% of people using the internet were using Internet Explorer. That means almost everyone you knew who was online was using it to explore websites. It was included with Windows computers, making it super easy for people to start using it right away.

Even though Internet Explorer was super popular, things change! Other new browsers, like Google Chrome and Firefox, came out and became very popular too. Also, phones and tablets became a big way to use the internet, and Internet Explorer didn't work on them as well.

So, Microsoft made a new browser called Microsoft Edge to take its place. Internet Explorer officially stopped being used on June 15, 2022.
