Key Facts
Meet Your Pee-Pee Part!
The penis is a special part of the boy's body. It has a few jobs! One is to let pee out, like a little hose.
It also helps make babies when a grown-up man and woman decide to have one. It’s an external part, meaning it’s on the outside of the body. It has different parts like a root, a body, and a tip called the glans.
Sometimes, a little flap of skin called the foreskin covers the glans, but some people have it removed when they are babies. It’s a super important part of how boys grow up and become men!
When It Gets BIG and STIFF!
Have you ever seen a balloon get bigger when you blow it up? The penis can do something like that! When a boy or man feels excited, or sometimes even when he’s sleeping or just waking up, the penis can fill with blood and get bigger and harder.
This is called an erection. It’s like the penis is standing up straight! It can point up, down, or straight ahead.
When it’s not hard, it’s called flaccid and is softer and smaller.
What's Inside This Body Part?
Inside the body of the penis are three special tubes. Two are called corpora cavernosa, and they are like sponges that fill with blood to make it hard. The third tube is called the corpus spongiosum, and it’s around another important tube called the urethra.
The urethra is the path for pee to come out. It also carries something called semen, which is what helps make babies. So, the penis is like a clever tunnel system!
A Very Old Body Part!
The word 'penis' comes from an old language called Latin, and it used to mean 'tail'. People have known about the penis for a very, very long time. It’s a part of the body that helps humans have families, which is how people keep living on Earth. It’s also similar to a part in girls called the clitoris. It’s amazing how our bodies are made!
