Where the Big House Sits!

Holkham Hall is a super special house in a place called Norfolk, in England. It's not in a busy city, but near a quiet village. Think of it like a giant, beautiful mansion sitting in a huge, green park. It's surrounded by fields and trees, making it a peaceful place to visit. This big house is like a treasure chest waiting to be explored!

Who Built This Amazing Place?

A very important person named Thomas Coke wanted to build this amazing house a long, long time ago, back in the 1700s! He had clever friends who helped him design it, like William Kent and Richard Boyle. They wanted it to look super grand and fancy, like a palace from a storybook. It took many years to build, brick by brick, to make it perfect.

Rooms Fit for a King (or Queen!)

Inside Holkham Hall, there are rooms that are super fancy! The main entrance is called the Marble Hall, but it's actually made of pretty pink stone. Then you go up to the first floor, where the most important rooms are. One room, called the Saloon, has walls covered in bright red velvet! It's like stepping into a movie set with all the beautiful decorations.

Secret Passages and Cozy Corners

This big house has special wings that stick out from the middle. These are like separate little houses attached to the main one! One has rooms for the family to live in, another is for guests, one is a chapel for prayers, and another has the kitchens. It's like a whole village tucked inside one giant building, with lots of space for everyone!
