Key Facts
Where is Berlin?
Imagine a city in the middle of Europe, like a big playground in the middle of a country! Berlin is the capital of Germany, a country in Europe. It's a busy place with lots of people and buildings. The weather there is like many places, with warm summers and cold winters, perfect for playing outside in different seasons. It's a city built on rivers and lakes, making it a pretty place to explore.
From Tiny Village to Big City!
A super long time ago, around 800 years back, Berlin was just a little village. But it started to grow! It became the capital of a place called Brandenburg, and then it got even bigger and more important.
Over hundreds of years, it grew and grew, becoming the heart of a country called Prussia. Then, it became the capital of a whole new country, Germany, in 1871. That's like a small seed growing into a giant tree!
A City of Smarty Pants and Superstars!
After 1900, Berlin became a super cool place for smart people! It was famous for science, music, and having amazing museums. Lots of brilliant minds came to Berlin to learn and invent things. It was also a place where important decisions were made for the country. Think of it like a school where everyone is a genius and they're inventing new things all the time!
A City That Went Through Tough Times
Sadly, during a big war called World War II, Berlin was badly damaged by bombs. After the war, the city was split into two parts, like a toy broken in half. For many years, it was a symbol of a big disagreement between two sides of the world.
But then, something amazing happened! The city was put back together, and Berlin became the capital of a united Germany again. It's a story of a city that bounced back!
