Herring buss

A herring buss was a special kind of boat used a super long time ago, from about 500 years ago up to just a couple of hundred years ago. These boats were built by people in places like the Netherlands and Belgium. Their main job was to catch lots and lots of herring, which are small, shiny fish that swim in big groups.

Think of them as the delivery trucks of the sea, bringing yummy fish to people's tables!

These boats were built to be strong and sturdy, so they could handle the waves and wind out on the ocean. They weren't super fast like modern boats, but they were good at staying out at sea for a long time. Fishermen would sail out, find the big schools of herring, and use special nets to catch them.
