Helen Keller

Helen Keller was born a long, long time ago in a sunny town in Alabama. When she was only a baby, she got very sick and lost her sight and hearing. This meant she couldn't see the world around her or hear her mom and dad.

It was like living in a quiet, dark room all the time! For a while, she only knew how to make her own special signs to talk to her family. But Helen was a super curious kid and wanted to learn more!

When Helen was seven, a wonderful teacher named Anne Sullivan came to live with her. Anne was like a superhero for Helen! She taught Helen how to understand words by spelling them out with her fingers into Helen's hand.

Imagine feeling letters pop into your palm! Anne taught Helen to read books and even to speak. It was hard work, but Helen was a super learner.

Soon, she could read and write just like everyone else!

Helen didn't stop learning! She went to college, which is like a super-duper school for grown-ups. She was the first person who was both deaf and blind to graduate from college!

Wow! Helen also became a famous writer and speaker. She wrote books about her life and traveled the world telling people how important it is to help others, especially those with disabilities.

She wanted everyone to have a chance to learn and be happy.

Helen Keller showed everyone that even if you face big challenges, you can still do amazing things. She proved that people with disabilities are just as smart and capable as anyone else. She worked hard to make sure people with sight and hearing problems could go to school and have good lives. Because of Helen, many more people learned to help those who are deaf or blind. She is a true hero!
