Where the Islands Play!
Guadeloupe is a super cool place made of islands in the Caribbean Sea. It's like a giant butterfly with two main wings! One wing is called Basse-Terre and the other is Grande-Terre.
There are also smaller islands like Marie-Galante and La Désirade. It's south of islands called Antigua and north of Dominica. The biggest city is Basse-Terre, but the busiest one is Pointe-à-Pitre.
It's a part of France, even though it's far away!
A Very Old Story
A long, long time ago, a famous explorer named Christopher Columbus sailed by and named these islands Guadeloupe. Before him, people called the Karuk people lived there. Over many years, Guadeloupe became part of France. It's like a piece of France that lives in the Caribbean! It's a special place that has its own unique language, called Guadeloupean Creole, but everyone also speaks French.
What Do People Do?
People in Guadeloupe love to grow yummy things like bananas and sugar cane. They also have beautiful beaches that attract visitors from all over the world. Many people work in shops, hotels, and restaurants, helping the tourists have a great time. It's a place where farming and tourism are very important. They even use the same money as France, called the Euro!
Island School Days
Kids in Guadeloupe go to school just like you! They learn French, which is the official language, but they also speak Guadeloupean Creole at home and with friends. The schools are part of the French education system, so they learn many of the same things as kids in France. It’s important for them to learn both languages to understand their culture and the wider world.
