Meet the Nature Island!

Imagine an island shaped like a green jewel in the big blue Caribbean Sea! That's Dominica! It's part of a chain of islands called the Lesser Antilles. Dominica is like a giant, bumpy rainforest with tall mountains. The capital city is called Roseau, and it sits on the west coast. Think of it as a special place where nature is the star of the show, with lots of trees and amazing animals.

A Land of Fire and Water!

Dominica is a very young island, and it's still being made by volcanoes deep underground! This means there are hot springs and even a lake that boils! The island is covered in thick, green rainforests that get lots of rain, making everything grow big and lush.

Sometimes, near the coast, it's a bit drier with smaller bushes. It’s a place where the land is always changing, like a giant science experiment!

Amazing Animals and a Special Bird!

Dominica is home to so many cool creatures! It's a paradise for plants and animals. The most special resident is the Sisserou parrot, also called the imperial amazon. This beautiful bird is bright green and has purple on its chest! It's so important that it's on Dominica's flag, and it can only be found on this island. Sadly, there aren't many of them left, making them super rare and precious.

A Long, Long Story!

People have lived on Dominica for a very, very long time, starting with the Arawak people. Later, the Kalinago people lived there. Then, explorers like Christopher Columbus sailed by!

Europeans came and built plantations, and eventually, Great Britain took over. Dominica became its own independent country in 1978. It has a rich history, with different cultures mixing together over hundreds of years.
