Green Boots

Green Boots is the nickname for the body of a climber who sadly passed away on Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world! This climber was wearing bright green boots, which is how they got their name. For many years, their body was found in a small cave, like a secret hideout, high up on the mountain. It became a famous spot that other climbers would see on their way to the top.

Green Boots became a landmark, which is like a signpost on the mountain. Imagine seeing a special rock or a funny-shaped tree that tells you where you are. Green Boots was like that, but it was a person's body. It was found on a climbing path called the Northeast ridge. Many climbers who tried to reach the top from the north side would pass by this sad but important marker.

Nobody was exactly sure who Green Boots was for a long time! There were many guesses. The most popular guess is that it was Tsewang Paljor, an Indian climber who was part of a big climbing group.

Sadly, he was part of a disaster in 1996 where many climbers got into trouble. He was wearing those famous green boots when he disappeared. It's a sad story, but it helps us remember the dangers of climbing very high mountains.

Because Green Boots was a person, and it was a sad reminder for climbers, their body was eventually moved. In 2014, people carefully moved Green Boots from the little cave. This was done so that climbers could focus on their journey and not be reminded of the dangers in such a direct way.
