Where is This Awesome Place?

Grand Canyon Lodge is perched on the very edge of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, a place so big it looks like a giant bite taken out of the Earth! It's like standing on the edge of a super-duper, enormous playground slide. The air here can be cool, even in summer, because it's so high up. Imagine wearing a sweater even when the sun is shining!

Building a Dream House for Canyon Explorers!

This lodge wasn't built overnight! It was made between 1927 and 1928, a long, long time ago. The builders used rocks from the canyon itself, called Kaibab Limestone, and wood from the nearby trees.

This made the lodge look like it grew right out of the ground, blending in with the rocky and foresty surroundings. It was designed to be a cozy place for people to rest after exploring the amazing canyon.

Cozy Cabins for Sleepy Heads!

Instead of one big hotel, Grand Canyon Lodge had lots of little houses called cabins! There were 23 fancy cabins and 91 regular ones. These cabins were separate from the main building, which was mostly for eating and shopping.

It was like having your own little bedroom in the woods, just a short walk from where everyone ate dinner. Some of these cabins were even moved to a different spot later on!

A Lodge That's Been Through Fires!

Believe it or not, the main building of Grand Canyon Lodge has caught fire twice! The first time was way back in 1932, and then again in 2025. Fires can be scary, but people worked hard to rebuild parts of the lodge so visitors could still come and enjoy the incredible views of the Grand Canyon. It's a place that has seen a lot of history!
