Godfrey of Bouillon

Godfrey of Bouillon was a super important knight a long, long time ago, around 900 years ago! He lived in a place called Bouillon, which is now in Belgium. He was known for being a strong leader and a brave fighter. Think of him like a superhero from history, but with real armor and a sword!

Godfrey became famous because he joined a huge journey called the First Crusade. This was like a massive road trip with thousands of soldiers who traveled all the way to a city called Jerusalem. It was a very long and difficult trip, full of challenges, but Godfrey was one of the main leaders who helped them get there.

When the Crusaders finally reached Jerusalem, they won a big battle. Everyone thought Godfrey would become the king of the new land. But guess what? He said no! He didn't want to be called a king where Jesus had walked. Instead, he took the title 'Defender of the Holy Sepulchre,' which means he was like the protector of a very special church.

Godfrey of Bouillon is remembered because he was a powerful knight and a great leader. He showed courage and determination by leading his army on that incredible journey. Even though he didn't want to be a king, his actions helped shape history and are still studied by people who love learning about knights and old battles.
