Gherman Titov

Imagine being one of the very first people to zoom into space! That's Gherman Titov. He was a super brave pilot from the Soviet Union. On August 6, 1961, he blasted off in a rocket called Vostok 2. He wasn't the very first person in space, but he was the second human ever to orbit our amazing planet Earth. That means he flew all the way around it, not just once, but many times!

Gherman Titov spent a whole day in space, which was a HUGE deal back then! He was the first person to actually sleep while floating in orbit. It must have been so strange to wake up and not be on your bed! He also got a little sick, like feeling dizzy, which is called space sickness. He was the first person to feel that way and even to throw up in space. Wow, space is tricky!
