Meet the New Boss!

Once upon a time, France had a king! But then, some very brave people decided they wanted a different way to run their country. They said, 'No more king!' and started something called the First Republic.

This was like starting a brand new game with brand new rules. It all began on a special day in September 1792. This new Republic was meant to be for everyone, and they even decided to count the years from this new beginning!

A Time of Big Adventures and Scares

This new Republic was like a rollercoaster! France was super excited about being a republic, but other countries nearby weren't so sure. So, France had to fight in wars for many years, like a big, long game of tag that lasted a decade!

Inside France, things were also a bit wild. There were times of big changes, like when they had to make tough decisions and even times that were a little scary for people. It was a time of lots of ups and downs.

Why France Said 'Hooray!' for the Republic

Why was this new Republic so important? Well, it meant that the people of France got to have a bigger say in how their country was run. Instead of one king making all the decisions, they wanted more people to be involved.

This idea of people having power is a really big deal! It showed that countries could change and try new ways of doing things. It was a big step towards fairness and giving everyone a voice.

From Republic to Emperor!

The First Republic lasted for about 12 years. During this time, France tried out different ways of organizing their government, like trying on different hats to see which one fit best. Eventually, a very famous leader named Napoleon Bonaparte became very powerful.

He was so powerful that he decided France should become an Empire, and that was the end of the First Republic. But the idea of a republic stayed, and France would have republics again later!
