Foley Square

Imagine a busy city like New York! Foley Square is a special meeting spot for three streets: Worth Street, Centre Street, and Lafayette Street. It’s like a tiny triangle in a giant city.

This spot is in a neighborhood called Civic Center, right in Lower Manhattan. That’s a part of the big island of Manhattan where lots of important buildings are. It's not too far from Chinatown, a place full of yummy food and colorful shops!

Right in the middle of Foley Square is a small park called Thomas Paine Park. Thomas Paine was a very smart writer who helped people think about freedom a long, long time ago. The square is named after a man named Thomas F. Foley. People called him 'Big Tom' because he was a big deal in his neighborhood!

He used to own a place where people could get drinks and snacks, like a friendly corner store. He was also a leader in a group called Tammany Hall. He lived a long time ago, from 1852 to 1925.
