Eruption Column

Have you ever seen a really tall tower of smoke? That's an eruption column! It's like a super-powered chimney that comes out of a volcano when it erupts. It's made of hot ash, gas, and tiny pieces of rock that get blasted high into the sky. Sometimes, these columns can be as tall as a skyscraper or even reach into space! They look like a giant, angry cloud puffing out from the Earth.

When a volcano is getting ready to erupt, there's a lot of pressure building up inside, like shaking a soda bottle really hard! This pressure pushes hot gas and melted rock, called magma, up through the volcano's opening.
