Key Facts
Meet Edgar Lungu!
Imagine being the boss of a whole country! Edgar Lungu was the President of Zambia, a country in Africa, for a few years. He was born a long, long time ago, in 1956. Being president is a super important job, like being the captain of a big ship, making sure everything runs smoothly. He helped lead Zambia from 2015 to 2021.
The Big Election Races!
Being president isn't just given to you; you have to be chosen by the people! Edgar Lungu was in some very close elections, which are like big contests where everyone votes. He won two times, but it was always a really tight race, like a photo finish in a race! He had to work hard to convince people he was the best choice to lead.
A Leader's Many Hats!
Before becoming president, Edgar Lungu had other important jobs. He was like a super-helper to the president before him, Michael Sata. He was in charge of making sure the laws were fair (Minister of Justice) and also looked after the country's safety (Minister of Defence). These jobs helped him learn a lot about running a country.
Saying Goodbye to the Job
Even though Edgar Lungu was president for a while, he eventually had to step down. In 2021, another election happened, and someone else won. Itβs part of how countries choose their leaders. He later passed away in 2025 after a surgery. His time as president is a part of Zambia's story.
