Easter Island: The Land of the Giant Stone Heads!

Easter Island is like a tiny dot in a giant blue ocean, super far away from everywhere! It's so remote that the closest neighbors are hundreds and hundreds of miles away. Think of it like being on the very last playground in the world! It's part of a country called Chile, all the way across the Pacific Ocean.

The most amazing thing about Easter Island is its nearly 1,000 giant stone statues called moai. These statues are super tall, some as tall as a two-story building! They were carved by the ancient people who lived there, called the Rapa Nui. Nobody knows for sure why they made them, but they are like silent guardians of the island.

Long ago, this island was covered in trees. The Rapa Nui people used the trees for many things, like building boats and moving the giant moai. But over time, many trees were cut down. This made it harder for the island to stay healthy, and the number of people living there changed a lot.

Today, Easter Island is a special place that people visit from all over the world to see the moai. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which means it's protected because it's so important. About 7,750 people live there now, and many of them are descendants of the original Rapa Nui people.
