Douro

Imagine a giant snake of water, that's kind of like the Douro River! It's the biggest river in a place called the Iberian Peninsula. It starts way up high in Spain, near a town called Duruelo de la Sierra.

Then, it wiggles and jiggles its way across the land, mostly going west. It's so long, it travels through lots of different places before it reaches the big, blue Atlantic Ocean. Think of it as a super long waterslide for water!

The Douro doesn't just flow through empty land. It passes through parts of Spain called Castile and León, which are full of rolling hills and farms. Then, it crosses into Portugal, a country known for its beautiful landscapes.

Along its banks, you'll find amazing things like vineyards where grapes grow for yummy drinks. It even has a special train track that follows its path, like a secret adventure route!

Guess what? The Douro River is so old, it's seen amazing things happen over thousands of years! Near a small part of the river, there's a place with ancient art drawn on rocks from a super long time ago, called the Côa Valley.

It's so special that it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which means it's protected for everyone to learn from. The river also creates stunning views that people love to see.

After its long journey, the Douro River finally reaches the sea. It flows into the Atlantic Ocean right at a big, busy city in Portugal called Porto. Porto is the second-largest city in Portugal, and it's a really important place. The river meeting the ocean is like the end of a grand adventure for the water, and it's a beautiful sight to behold!
