Imagine a superhero on a football field! That was Doug Flutie. He was a quarterback, which means he was the boss of throwing the football. Doug played for a super long time, 21 whole years! That's longer than you've been in school. He played in different leagues, like the NFL and in Canada, where they also love football. He was so good, he won a super special award called the Heisman Trophy.
The Throw That Made Him Famous!
One time, Doug did something incredible. His team, the Boston College Eagles, was playing a big game. With only seconds left, he threw a touchdown pass that won the game! It was like a movie scene. He was so amazing that he even got drafted by a team even though he played in another league first. He was the lowest draft pick ever for someone who won the Heisman Trophy!
A Canadian Football Star!
Doug Flutie also played football in Canada, and guess what? He was a HUGE star there! He played for teams like the BC Lions and Calgary Stampeders. He was named the best player in the Canadian league a record six times! That's like winning the 'Most Valuable Player' award in your school's sports day every single year. He also won the championship three times, called the Grey Cup.
Doug's Football Journey
After being a star in Canada, Doug came back to play in the NFL again. He helped his team, the Buffalo Bills, get to the playoffs, which is like the big tournament at the end of the season. He was so good that he was chosen for the Pro Bowl, an all-star game. Even though he's not playing anymore, he's remembered as one of the greatest quarterbacks ever!
