Dodge v. Ford Motor Co.

Long ago, a super smart inventor named Henry Ford started making cars for everyone. His company, Ford Motor Company, made the famous Model T car. It was like the first car that many families could buy!

The Dodge brothers wanted Henry Ford to give them more money from the company's profits. They said, 'Hey, we own part of this company, so we deserve more money back!' They took Henry Ford to court to ask a judge to make him share the profits.

The case went all the way to the Michigan Supreme Court. The judges had to decide who was right. They said that Henry Ford had to run the company to help the people who owned parts of it, like the Dodge brothers. This meant he had to share the profits with the shareholders. It was like saying the company's main job was to make money for its owners, not just to help workers or customers.

This court case is super famous! It taught people that when you own a piece of a company, the company's bosses should try to make money for you. This idea is called 'shareholder primacy'. Even today, many companies try to make profits for their owners. But some people wonder if companies should also think about their workers and the people who buy their products, just like Henry Ford wanted to!
