Dikembe was a natural! He loved playing and became famous for his incredible defense. He played for 18 seasons in the NBA, which is a really, really long time in basketball years!

Dikembe was famous for blocking shots. He was so good that he won an award for being the best defender four times! That's more than almost anyone else ever. He also led the league in blocked shots, meaning he stopped more shots than anyone else in the whole NBA. Think of it like catching a fly ball before it hits the ground, but for basketball! He was a true defensive star.
More Than Just a Player!
Besides being an amazing basketball player, Dikembe was also a very kind person. He loved helping others. He worked hard to help people in his home country, the Congo, by building hospitals and supporting health programs.
He showed everyone that you can be a great athlete and also a great humanitarian, making the world a better place. His jersey number, 55, is even retired by two teams because he was so special!
