Derek Jeter started playing baseball when he was just a kid, dreaming of hitting home runs. The Yankees picked him to play for them when he was 20 years old. In his very first full year, he won an award for being the best new player, called Rookie of the Year.

He kept getting better and better, hitting more and more home runs and making incredible plays. He even got over 3,000 hits, which is a LOT of times he hit the ball safely!

Derek Jeter wasn't just good, he was a leader! He always tried his hardest and made his teammates play better too. He was known for hitting the ball when it mattered most, like in big games.

Sometimes, when the game was on the line, he'd hit a home run or get a big hit. That's why people called him 'Captain Clutch' and 'Mr. November' because he was so clutch in important games, especially in the fall!

After he stopped playing baseball, Derek Jeter didn't stop being involved with the game. He even became the boss of another baseball team, the Miami Marlins! He also became a businessman.

But even though he was famous and busy, he always remembered his baseball roots. He was so loved by fans that when he retired, they retired his number 2 jersey, meaning no one else can wear it for the Yankees. It's like a special honor!
