Key Facts
Who Was Darius III?
Imagine a king ruling a super-big country a long, long time ago. That was Darius III! He was the thirteenth and final king of a powerful empire called Persia. He ruled from 336 BC to 330 BC. That's over 2,300 years ago! He wasn't born into the royal family like some kings, but he became king because of his bravery and smarts. He was like a hero who earned his crown!
How Did He Become King?
Darius wasn't always famous. He was a bit of a mystery at first! But he did something super brave during a big trip with another king.
Because he was so courageous, he got to be in charge of a whole land called Armenia. Later, he even helped run the empire's super-fast mail system. When the old king was poisoned, Darius was chosen to be the new king.
But he had to be careful, because the person who poisoned the old king wanted to poison him too!
The Big Fight!
Darius's time as king was exciting but also scary. A famous warrior named Alexander the Great, who was also known as Alexander the Great, started a huge invasion of the Persian Empire. Alexander was super strong and won many battles.
He even burned down the beautiful capital city of the Persians. Darius tried to escape, but sadly, he was killed by one of his own relatives before Alexander could catch him.
A King's Story
Darius III's story is a bit like a dramatic movie! He went from being a regular guy to ruling a massive empire, only to face one of history's greatest conquerors. Even though his reign was short, it was a very important time.
It marked the end of the mighty Persian Empire and the beginning of a new era led by Alexander the Great. His story reminds us that even powerful kings can face big challenges.
