A School from Long, Long Ago!
This university is SO old, it started way back in 1293! That's even older than many castles you might have seen. It used to be in a different town called Alcalá, but it moved to Madrid a long, long time ago in 1836.
It’s one of the oldest schools still running in the whole world. Imagine all the students who have learned there over hundreds of years, like a giant, never-ending storybook of knowledge!

Guess how many students go to this university? Over 86,000! That’s more kids than could fit in a giant stadium! It’s so big, it’s one of the biggest schools in Europe that isn’t just for learning from home. All these students come to learn all sorts of amazing things, from science to art to history. It’s a busy place with lots of energy and new ideas buzzing around all the time.
Super Smarty Pants School!
This university is famous for being super smart and important. It was the first and only school in Spain allowed to give special doctor’s degrees to people all over the Spanish Empire a long time ago. And guess what? In 1909, it was one of the first places in the world to give a doctor’s degree to a woman! That was a really big deal and showed they believed everyone could be super smart.
