Chartres is a city in France, not too far from Paris. But the most famous thing there is a HUGE building called Chartres Cathedral. It's like a giant storybook made of stone and colorful glass windows. People from all over the world come to see it because it's so special and has been around for a very, very long time.

A Super Old Building!

This amazing cathedral started being built a super long time ago, between 1193 and 1250. That's over 800 years ago! Think about how old your grandparents are, and then imagine something much, much older. Most of the beautiful glass windows you see today are the original ones from when it was first built. The building itself hasn't changed much either, which is pretty cool!

Windows That Tell Stories!

What makes Chartres Cathedral so WOW? It's the incredible stained-glass windows! Most of them are still the same ones from hundreds of years ago. These windows are like colorful paintings that tell stories from the Bible. When the sun shines through them, the whole inside of the cathedral lights up with amazing colors. It’s like being inside a giant rainbow!

Chartres is a city that's famous for its cathedral. Even though some parts of the old town were a little bit damaged a long time ago by bombs during a war, the cathedral itself is still in amazing shape.
