Charles Rangel

Imagine a super-long time, like going to school for 46 whole years! That's how long Charles Rangel was a special helper for people in New York City. He was like a captain of a ship, guiding his district through many important decisions.

He cared a lot about making things fair and helping everyone have a good life. He was a really important person who worked hard to make his city and country better for everyone.

Before becoming a famous politician, Charles Rangel was a brave soldier! During a big war called the Korean War, he was a hero who helped his friends escape danger. He was so brave, he even got special medals for it!

After the war, he decided to help people in a different way, by working in government. He went to school to become a lawyer and then decided to run for a job where he could help even more people.

Charles Rangel was super good at his job. He helped make important rules about things like stopping bad drugs from coming into the country. He was also one of the first Black leaders in a very important government group called the House of Representatives.

He was like a team captain for other leaders from New York, making sure their voices were heard. He was known for being friendly but also for speaking his mind very clearly!
