Charles IV was a very important king who lived a long, long time ago. He was born in 1316 and became the Holy Roman Emperor, which was like being the boss of a big group of countries! He was also the King of Bohemia, a place that is now part of the Czech Republic.
Charles loved his home country so much that he made it super special. He was like a superhero king who wanted to make his kingdom the best it could be!
A King's Busy Life
Charles had a very busy life! He was born Wenceslaus, but he was given the name Charles when he was young. His dad was a king too, but sadly, he died in a big battle.
Charles became king of Bohemia when he was just 30 years old. Then, he was chosen to be the Holy Roman Emperor, which meant he had even more power and responsibility. He was crowned king of many different places, making him a ruler of a very large area!
Building a Dream City!
One of the coolest things Charles did was build up his capital city, Prague. He wanted it to be a magnificent place, so he built amazing buildings, including a famous bridge and a huge cathedral. He even started the first university in Central Europe, where people could go to learn all sorts of things! It was like he was creating a giant, amazing playground for learning and exploring.
Making Important Rules
Charles was also super smart about how to run his empire. He created a very important set of rules called the Golden Bull. This document explained exactly how the Holy Roman Empire would work and who got to choose the next emperor. It was like writing down the rules for a giant game to make sure everyone knew what was happening. He wanted peace and order, and his rules helped with that!
