Who Was General de Gaulle?
Charles de Gaulle was a super important French general and leader. He was born a long, long time ago, in 1890, in a city called Lille in France. He was a soldier who fought bravely in World War I. Saving France from Big Trouble!
During World War II, when Germany invaded France, Charles de Gaulle didn't want to give up. He flew all the way to England and told the French people on the radio, 'Let's keep fighting!' This was called the 'Appeal of 18 June.' He led the Free French Forces, like a captain of a ship, to help win the war and make France free again.

After the war, France needed a leader to fix things. Charles de Gaulle came back and helped create a new government called the Fifth Republic. He became the President of France!
