Charles de Gaulle: The Brave French Leader

Charles de Gaulle was a super important French general and leader. He was born a long, long time ago, in 1890, in a city called Lille in France. He was a soldier who fought bravely in World War I. He got hurt a few times but never gave up! He was known for being very tall and having a strong voice, which he used to inspire people.

During World War II, when Germany invaded France, Charles de Gaulle didn't want to give up. He flew all the way to England and told the French people on the radio, 'Let's keep fighting!' This was called the 'Appeal of 18 June.' He led the Free French Forces, like a captain of a ship, to help win the war and make France free again.

After the war, France needed a leader to fix things. Charles de Gaulle came back and helped create a new government called the Fifth Republic. He became the President of France! He wanted France to be strong and independent, like a superhero who doesn't need help from others. He made big decisions that changed France forever.

Charles de Gaulle was a leader who cared deeply about his country. He believed France should be a powerful nation. He made friends with other countries, like Germany, to make Europe stronger together. Even after he stopped being president, people remembered him as a great hero who helped France through tough times.
