They became known as the Free French Forces. They were like a secret army fighting from the outside to get their home back. They sailed to faraway places and even fought in planes and ships to help win the war.

A Fight for Freedom

When Germany invaded France, many French soldiers were captured. But General de Gaulle escaped and went to England. From there, he broadcast a message, asking all French people who wanted to keep fighting to join him.

These brave men and women became the Free French Forces. They came from all over the world, not just France. They were determined to free their country from the enemy's control and bring back their own flag.
