Central Valley, California

Key Facts
California's Giant Tummy!
The Central Valley is like a super long, flat playground stretching through California. It's so big, it's about 11% of the whole state! On one side, you have tall mountains called the Coast Ranges, and on the other, even bigger mountains called the Sierra Nevada. It's a very special place where lots of food grows.
Where the Food Grows!
This valley is like a giant farm for the whole United States! It grows more fruits, veggies, and nuts than almost anywhere else. Farmers use water from big lakes and long canals to help everything grow. It's so important that it helps feed millions of people every single day. You might have eaten something grown right here!
Rivers That Flow to the Sea
Two big rivers, the Sacramento and San Joaquin, start in the mountains and flow through the valley. They meet up in a special watery place called a delta before flowing all the way to the big ocean. Sometimes, water from other rivers gets sent through special man-made paths to help the farms.
Cities Big and Small
Lots of people live in the Central Valley! There are many cities, big and small, scattered all over. The capital of California, Sacramento, is right here! Other cities like Fresno and Bakersfield are also in this busy, food-growing land. It's a place where many different people live and work.
