Cave of Altamira

Deep in Spain, there's a special cave called Altamira. It's like a secret art gallery from a super long time ago! Inside, you can see amazing paintings of animals like bison and horses. These weren't painted with regular paint, but with charcoal and other natural colors. It's like a giant coloring book made by people who lived over 36,000 years ago!

A man named Modesto Cubillas first stumbled upon this amazing cave in 1868. Later, another explorer named Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola looked closer and realized the paintings were incredibly old. He thought people from the Stone Age made them! It was a big discovery, like finding a lost toy from your great-great-great-grandparents.

The paintings in Altamira are super famous because they were the first cave paintings found in Europe that people believed were made by ancient humans. At first, some people didn't believe it was possible for ancient people to create such beautiful art. But eventually, everyone agreed these paintings were a window into the past, showing us what life was like long, long ago.

Sadly, you can't go inside the real Cave of Altamira anymore. This is to protect the precious paintings so they don't fade away. But don't worry!
