Where in the World Are They?

The Canary Islands are like a secret treasure chest floating in the big blue Atlantic Ocean! They are super close to Africa, just a little way off the coast. Even though they are so close to Africa, they are actually part of Spain, a country far away in Europe. Think of it like having a toy from a different country that you play with in your backyard!

Volcanoes and Beaches Galore!

These islands are famous for their super tall volcanoes! The biggest one, Mount Teide, is so tall it's the third tallest volcano in the whole world, starting from the bottom of the ocean. It's taller than many skyscrapers stacked on top of each other! The islands also have beautiful beaches with warm sand, perfect for playing and swimming all year round.

Lots of People Love It Here!

Over 2 million people call the Canary Islands home. That's like having almost everyone in a big city live on these islands! Many people come from all over to visit, too, because the weather is so nice and sunny. It's a very popular place for holidays, like going to a giant playground with sunshine!

Seven Special Islands

There are seven main islands, each with its own special name: Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro. Tenerife is the biggest and has the tallest volcano. Fuerteventura is known for its long, sandy beaches. Each island is a little bit different, like having different kinds of toys in your toy box!
