Where Does This Cool Cat Live?

Imagine a super big forest, covered in snow for a long time! That's where the Canada lynx calls home. They live way up north, in places like Alaska and Canada, and also in the very northern parts of the United States. These forests are packed with tall trees, perfect for hiding and pouncing. It's a chilly place, but the lynx has thick fur to keep it warm.

Super Snowshoe Paws!

The Canada lynx has a special secret for walking in the snow: its paws! They are super wide, like built-in snowshoes. This helps them walk on top of the snow without sinking. Their back legs are also longer than their front legs, making them look like they're always ready to jump! They can even climb trees really well and are good swimmers.

What's for Dinner?

This lynx is a picky eater! Its favorite food is a fluffy bunny called a snowshoe hare. The lynx is so good at catching these hares that when there are lots of hares, there are lots of lynx. But when the hares disappear, the lynx have to move to find more food or have fewer babies. They often hunt when the sun is going down or coming up.

A Sneaky Hunter's Life

Canada lynx are mostly solo animals. They like to have their own space, called a territory, and don't hang out with other lynx much, especially if they are the same gender. When it's time to have babies, the mom lynx will have a litter of kittens. These little lynx grow up fast and learn to hunt from their mom.
