Bushrangers: Australia's Wild Outlaws!

Bushrangers were like Australia's own cowboys or knights of the road, but they lived a long time ago, between the 1780s and the early 1900s. They were outlaws who lived in the wild bushland. Some were escaped prisoners trying to hide, while others chose to be robbers. They were known for being brave and sometimes a little bit naughty, riding horses and hiding in the vast Australian countryside.

A super exciting time for bushrangers was during the gold rushes, when people rushed to find gold. Bushrangers loved to hang out near the goldfields, robbing banks and coaches carrying gold. They were like characters from a movie, sometimes even having shootouts with the police! People often thought of them as 'Wild Colonial Boys', brave and a bit rebellious, just like characters in old stories.

As time went on, it became harder for bushrangers to hide. New inventions like trains and telegraphs helped the police catch them faster. The most famous bushranger, Ned Kelly, was captured and his story ended in 1880. Even though some bushrangers popped up after that, most people think Ned Kelly's capture was the end of the bushranger era. It was a wild time, but it couldn't last forever!

Some bushrangers became like folk heroes, people admired for their bravery and sometimes even their kindness to the poor. They were seen as symbols of fighting against unfair rules. However, not all bushrangers were nice. Some were quite cruel. So, people have always had mixed feelings about them, wondering if they were good guys or bad guys. It's a bit like a complicated story!
