Key Facts
Where the Big Decisions Happen!
Brazil's National Congress is a super important building where grown-ups talk about rules and laws for everyone in Brazil. It's like the country's biggest classroom where they decide what's best for all the people. This amazing place is located in a city called Brasília, which is like the capital city of Brazil. It's a place where ideas fly around like colorful balloons!
Two Teams Working Together!
Inside this big building, there are actually two groups of people who work together. One group is called the Senate, and the other is the Chamber of Deputies. The Senate is like a team that represents all the different states in Brazil, and the Chamber of Deputies represents all the people. They have to agree on things, which is like when you and your friends have to decide on a game to play!
When Do They Meet?
These important meetings don't happen all year round. The leaders gather from February 2nd until December 22nd, which is a long time! They also get a short break in the middle of the summer, from July 17th to August 1st. It’s like when you have summer vacation from school. They need this time to rest and then come back ready to work hard again!
Who Gets to Be a Leader?
To be a senator, you have to be chosen by people from your state, and they get to be senators for a long time, eight years! The deputies are chosen by people all over Brazil, and they are chosen for four years. It’s like a big election where everyone gets to pick who they think will do the best job representing them.
