Boris I of Bulgaria

Imagine a prince named Boris who lived a super long time ago, around the year 852! He was the leader of a country called Bulgaria. Boris was a brave leader, but he had a really big choice to make. He wanted his people to have a strong country, and he thought a new religion could help. It was a bit like choosing a new team to play with, but this was for everyone in the whole country!

Boris decided that Bulgaria would become Christian. This was a HUGE deal! Before this, people in Bulgaria had different beliefs.

But Boris wanted everyone to follow the same path. He invited priests and teachers to come to Bulgaria and help everyone learn about Christianity. It was like inviting new friends to school to teach everyone a new game.

This made Bulgaria more connected to other countries in Europe.

When Christianity came to Bulgaria, people needed a way to read and write about it. So, Boris helped bring a special alphabet called the Glagolitic alphabet. It was like a secret code that only Bulgarians could use to write their own language!

This was super important because it meant Bulgarian stories and ideas could be written down for the first time. It helped Bulgarians feel proud of their own culture.

After Boris was no longer the ruler, he became a monk! That means he lived a quiet life, praying and helping others. Because he did so many good things for Bulgaria, especially bringing Christianity and the alphabet, people thought he was a saint. Even today, he is remembered as Saint Boris the Baptist. He was a leader who really cared about his people and their future.
