Berossus: The Ancient Storyteller

Berossus was a very clever person who lived a super long time ago, around 250 BCE. He was like a priest who took care of a big temple for a god named Bel Marduk in a city called Babylon. He was also an amazing astronomer, which means he loved looking at the stars and figuring out how they moved.

He wrote down all his knowledge in books, but sadly, we don't have his original writings anymore. It’s like losing a favorite toy, but we still have some of its pieces!

Berossus wrote a famous book called 'Babyloniaca'. Think of it like a giant history book filled with incredible tales of ancient Babylon. He wrote in a language called Koine Greek, which was common back then.

Sadly, his books are lost to time, like a treasure buried deep underground. But don't worry! Other people, like a writer named Eusebius who lived much later, copied parts of his stories.

Berossus was important because he helped people in the future learn about the past. He wrote about the history of Babylon and its amazing stories. Scientists recently found a clue that might be Berossus himself! They think he was a high priest named Bēl-reʾû-šunu. This priest worked in a very important temple in Babylon around 258 BCE.
