Berhane Adere

Imagine a super-speedy person who loves to run long distances! That's Berhane Adere. She was born in Ethiopia, a country far away. Berhane is famous for running very, very fast in races like the 10,000 meters, which is like running around a big park many times! She also ran in half marathons, which are even longer! She won lots of shiny medals for her amazing running skills.

Berhane Adere was a champion runner! She won a gold medal at the World Championships for running 10,000 meters. That's like winning a race against the best runners in the whole world!

She also won silver medals in that race other times. She was so fast that she even won gold and silver medals in indoor races, which happen inside a building. She was also a world champion in the half marathon, a super long race!

Did you know Berhane Adere set world records? She ran the 3,000 meters inside so fast that no one had ever run it that quickly before! It was the first time an Ethiopian woman set a world record for running indoors. She also set a world record for the 5,000 meters indoors. Imagine running so fast you're the fastest person EVER in that race! That's how incredible she was.

After her amazing running career, Berhane Adere didn't stop being a hero. She now works with UNICEF, which is a group that helps children all over the world. She is a special ambassador, which means she uses her voice to help girls get to go to school. She believes that every girl deserves to learn and have a bright future, just like she had a bright running future!
