Meet the Giant Castle!

Once upon a time in Paris, France, there was a super strong castle called the Bastille. It was built a long, long time ago, like when knights and kings were around! It had eight big towers, like giant LEGO bricks stacked up high. This castle was built to be a strong wall to protect the city from enemies trying to attack from the east. It was a very important building for Paris!

A Castle That Became a Prison?

Even though it was built to be a fortress, the Bastille became a prison for people who made the kings angry. It wasn't like a regular jail with bars on windows. Kings would send people there, sometimes for a long time. Over many years, thousands of people passed through its gates. It was a place where secrets were kept and people were kept away from the world.

The Day the People Roared!

One very important day, July 14, 1789, something HUGE happened! People in Paris were very unhappy and wanted change. They marched to the Bastille to get gunpowder that was stored inside. They stormed the castle, and it was like a big, exciting movie scene! This event became a symbol for freedom and is still celebrated in France today as a special holiday.

What's Left of the Bastille Today?

After the people stormed it, the Bastille was torn down, brick by brick. Imagine taking apart a giant LEGO castle! Today, you can't see the whole castle anymore. But some of its old stones were saved and put on display. It's like finding a special treasure from the past that reminds everyone of the big changes that happened in France.
